Hurray for summer and the bright colours and warm days that go along with it! However, no need to pack up those cozy blankets and wait for another winter to curl up; why not make a fresh summer colours blanket?
I was in Michaels one day not looking for this in particular, but could not resist these colours calling to me. “Come sit on a beach with me” they said! So, I packed up 3 balls of this yarn in my cart and away we went to make a summer project. This blanket is perfect for a chilly night by a campfire, a night at the drive in theatre, a blanket in the sand at the beach, or a poolside reading wrap. When you are stubborn enough to not want to succumb to warmer, other than summer clothing, but can no longer ignore the goosebumps on your bare arms, this is the perfect throw.
I used the Bernat Blanket stripes for this which knits up pretty quickly. It was a basic knit and purl to make a nice smooth side. This is great for a beginner who wants to take a crack at a blanket!
So the basic skills required for this are cast on, knit, purl, bind off and a little patience. How much easier can you get?!
Materials
- I used size 15 (10mm) round needles
- 3 balls of Bernat blanket stripes yarn
Instructions
- Cast on 120 stitches
- Knit 4 rows
- Follow row 1 and row 2 pattern until your blanket is approximately 4 feet. When finished the stripes will run vertical as opposed to horizontal. Finished size is approximately 4 feet 6 feet
- Knit 4 rows
- Bind off and weave in the cast on and bind off tails
Pattern : *row 1 knit *row 2 knit 4, purl across until last 4 stitches, knit 4
Each colour worked is approximately 1 hour knitting time. Total project time around 30 hours.
