Babcia’s Orange Buttermilk Cookies
Happy Monday everyone! With Christmas only a couple weeks away my kitchen is still generating goodies at healthy (or rather unhealthy) rate. It will soon be time to start doing up some packages and sending them out for delivery. Every year I make a list and try to add a couple people who would not be expecting anything. Don’t you just find that so rewarding to feel like you have brought one smile to someone who was least expecting it? Maybe it is a way of showing appreciation, letting someone know you care if they are going through a rough patch, or simply welcoming someone to new environment. Whatever your reasons are, it’s fun to spread some cheer 🙂
I’m getting this particular package of orange buttermilk cookies out for a rather long delivery. These are Babcia’s orange buttermilk cookie recipe and I’m going to ship some out to her to beautiful British Columbia. (Thank you Sue for letting me steal your idea!). When I was a child growing up, it was rare that we got to have both grandma’s for Christmas. My paternal grandma has always been on the other side of Canada, out west. At Christmas when she wasn’t with us she would always send our family a Christmas care package. In it, we would find our gifts, and a large box of her orange buttermilk cookies and various other goodies. It was of course not as good as having her here, but a close second.
The last time she visited us in Ontario, I made her these cookies from her own recipe and she gobbled them up with child like delight! She sadly has alzheimer’s now, but I’m hoping these will conjure up a feeling of contentment, from all the Christmas’ past, when she would share her own love with these delicious cookies!
